Mike grew up in the construction industry, as his grandfather was a general contractor in the Franklin/Suffolk Virginia area. Starting out as a "gopher" for his grandpa right out of high school, Mike then worked for his uncle who was a cabinet maker. This evolved into trimming out houses and then to framing houses. Mike worked on several log homes and decided to start his own business. In 1991, Mike started working for himself as "Red Oak Custom Builders," building log homes and doing framing work for local builders.
After doing framing work for Ernest Bridgers for a few years, Mike was offered a full time job as Construction Manager for Signature Communities Inc. That was in 1997. Mike, like Mr. Bridgers, enjoys the satisfaction of building a quality, affordable home and having the opportunity to build a community from start to finish, one house at a time.
Mike is married and has three children and they make their home in Nashville, North Carolina. In his spare time, Mike enjoys working on the restoration of his home, fishing and playing an occasional game of golf.
